Welcome to Larry’s BLOG

Hello!

My name is Larry Gauthier and I was diagnosed with cancer – Multiple Myeloma – in March of 2007. I was admitted into a three step cancer treatment program at the University of Michigan:
1. Chemotherapy
2. Bone Marrow Transplant/Stem Cell Recovery
3. Maintenance/Remission

The purpose of this blog is to chronicle my cancer treatment and to share experiences with siblings, family members, friends and other Multiple Myeloma cancer patients. To assist in navigating through lots of information, select categories listed on the left: Chemotherapy Updates, Transplant Updates, or Maintenance Updates.

You may notice that information or details in one posting are explained differently in another, and in some instances contradict an earlier posting. Thus was the education process that I experienced while learning about Multiple Myeloma and its treatment.

My chemotherapy is divided into 3 week cycles. In the beginning of my chemotherapy I tried to summarize the events into email messages to my four siblings (thus the early Chemo postings addressed to “Sibs”). However, the email notification list soon became unmanageable and I began this blog — transferring those early email messages and posting all subsequent news to this server. A blog has definitely been a better method of communicating and creating a history of this process.

If you are new to BLOGging… A blog is very much like a public journal or diary, designed for one person to share his/her experiences and ponderings with a large community of people. For the most part, blogs are intended as one-way communication, although you can press the “Comment” button and reply to a posting – just keep in mind that your feedback will be visible to a large audience. For more private replies you should probably send me an email.
